Poop colour checker.
Saw something surprising? Tap the closest colour and get a plain answer: what it usually means, the common food causes, and whether it's worth a doctor's visit.
Which colour was it?
Pick the closest match. Bathroom lighting lies, so go with your best guess.
See a doctor if…
Whatever colour you tapped, these are worth a real appointment:
- Blood in your stool
- Black or tarry stool
- Pale, white or clay-coloured stool
- A change lasting more than 2 weeks
- Weight loss you can't explain
- Severe pain, or feeling faint or dizzy
Questions people actually ask
Which poop colours are worth seeing a doctor about?
Black and tarry stool, red or maroon stool you can't link to food, and pale, white or clay-coloured stool. Any of these can be a sign of bleeding or a liver or bile problem, so get them checked.
Can food change the colour of poop?
Yes, a lot. Beets can turn it red, leafy greens green, carrots orange, and iron tablets or bismuth remedies black. Food colours usually pass within a day or two.
Does this checker diagnose anything?
No. It gives general information about what a colour usually means. It can't see your stool or know your history, so if you're worried, talk to a doctor.
Is anything I tap sent anywhere?
No. The checker runs entirely in your browser, and nothing you tap is saved or sent.
